Jeffrey Basch joined Batchis Nestle & Reimann as an associate in 2019. Jeff focuses his practice on special education law, and counsels families of children with disabilities on issues arising under various state and federal laws, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. He is passionate about supporting students and their families in obtaining the resources they need.

Jeff is an empathetic attorney who prioritizes the unique needs of each child in order to provide accurate and personalized representation. He currently works to help students in securing appropriate programming and services, as well as in obtaining compensatory education, school placements, tuition reimbursement, and other available remedies.

Prior to attending law school, Jeff worked as a child advocate at HUNE, a non-profit organization that provides free bilingual English and Spanish training, technical assistance and individual assistance to families of infants, toddlers, children, and youth with disabilities. While there, Jeff worked closely with families and regularly attended IEP meetings to advocate on behalf of his clients. Jeff also worked as a youth abilities coordinator at the Arc of Philadelphia, an organization dedicated to protecting the rights of and promoting opportunities for children and adults with disabilities. At the Arc, Jeff helped coordinate and recruit students for the Youth Leadership Conference, a one-day event held in Philadelphia which provides training and resources for students with disabilities to build leadership and self-advocacy skills.

Jeff is a cum laude graduate of Temple University, Beasley School of Law. While at Temple, Jeff continued to hone his advocacy skills by serving as the special education chair of SDAS, a coalition of law students working to stem the school-to-prison pipeline by defending students at school disciplinary hearings. Jeff also spent a semester at the Education Law Center as part of a practicum, conducting research and writing for policy projects aimed at protecting the rights of children in Philadelphia. Jeff spent the summer of 2017 working at Batchis Nestle & Reimann as a legal intern. In addition to assisting the firm’s partners prepare for a due process hearing, he also conducted various research and writing including a formal brief used in settlement conference negotiations in federal court.

Jeff earned his Bachelor’s degree from Connecticut College, graduating magna cum laude. In addition to his passion for special education law, Jeff is an avid tennis player. While in college, he was a member of the men’s varsity tennis team where he earned recognition as an ITA Scholar Athlete each year. He continues to play regularly in the Philadelphia area. Jeff currently lives with his girlfriend in Manayunk and enjoys scouring the city for the best pizza.
